CBQR-AM began broadcasting. It was owned by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
CBQR Rankin Inlet was authorized to change frequency from 1110 kHz to 1160 kHz. Power remained 40 watts.
On March 27, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation received approval to operate an English-language FM radio station at Kangiqcliniq (Rankin Inlet) on the frequency 105.1 MHz, with an effective radiated power of 87 watts. It would rebroadcast programs of the CBC Northern Radio Service received via satellite and programs from studios located at Kangiqcliniq. The new FM transmitter would replace the existing low-power CBQR-AM Kangiqcliniq.
CBQR-FM began broadcasting on December 15.
CBQR-FM operated the following rebroadcast transmitters: CBIG-FM Eskimo Point (on air since October 24, 1975), CBIA Gjoa Haven (on air since September 13, 1982), and CBIQ-FM Spence Bay (on air since July 14, 1978).
CBC Radio added overnight programming to its schedule on May 1, with "CBC Radio Overnight". The programming started out on certain CBC stations and was expanded to all of its stations by September. The program aired between 1:00 and 6:00 a.m. (local time) and offered reports from public broadcasters in 25 countries, with Canadian news on the hour. The program service was provided by the World Radio Network in London, England.
The CBC Radio network (CBC Radio) was renamed "CBC Radio One" on September 1.
As of 2001, CBQR-FM operated the following transmitters: CBIG-FM Arviat (Eskimo Point), CBIA Gjoa Haven and CBIQ-FM Taloyoak (Spence Bay). CBQR-FM broadcasts approximately 10 hours of local programming each week from Rankin Inlet. Local programming is produced in the English and Inuktituk languages.
On May 12, the CRTC renewed the licence of CBQR and its rebroadcast transmitters: CBIA Gijuo Haven, CBIG-FM Arviat (Eskimo Point) and CBIQ-FM Taloyoak (Spence Bay).
On August 9, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence of CBQR-FM (and its transmitters) to August 31, 2011.
On August 25, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence for CBQR-FM and its transmitters to March 1, 2013.
On February 22, the CRTC administratively renewed the licences for CBQR-FM Rankin Inlet and its transmitters to August 31, 2013.
On May 28, the CRTC renewed the licence of CBQR-FM Rankin Inlet and its transmitters CBIG-FM Arviat (Eskimo Point), CBIQ-FM Taloyoak (Spence Bay) and CBIA Gjoa Haven, for a five year term to August 31, 2018.
On November 9, the CRTC approved the CBC’s application to amend the broadcasting licence for CBQR-FM Rankin Inlet, in order to add an FM transmitter, already known as CKQN-FM Baker Lake, to rebroadcast CBQR’s programming. CKQN-FM had been licensed to Qamanittuap Naaluataa and operated as a Type A Native radio station. After the station’s broadcasting licence was renewed administratively in 2011 and 2012, the licensee failed to submit a licence renewal application. The licence for CKQN-FM expired in February of 2013.
The CBC received CRTC approval to increase ERP for CKQN-FM from 60 to 89 watts. There would also be an increase in antenna height.
