On March 7, the CRTC approved the application by Comité de la radio étudiante universitaire de Sherbrooke (CREUS) to operate a new community-based campus FM radio station. The applicant indicated that, in each broadcast week, the new station would broadcast an average of 100 hours of programming. It stated that the station would not broadcast less than 84 hours of programming in each broadcast week. The applicant proposed to offer programming that would respond to the needs and interests of students and to broadcast programming that reflected regional and university current events. The station would promote the music of local artists as well as artists whose music was seldom heard on other stations. In this regard, the applicant planned to produce a weekly program exclusively dedicated to the development of local artists. In addition, the applicant proposed to establish a partnership with a Sherbrooke bar in order to promote shows by local artists. The applicant stated that it would provide opportunities for students and other members of the local community to develop on-air broadcasting skills. Volunteers would be recruited during information sessions that would be offered on a regular basis. The licence would expire August 31, 2009. The new station would broadcast with an effective radiated power of 490 watts on frequency 88.3 MHz (channel 202A).
CFAK-FM began broadcasting later in the year.
