On March 15, Jim Pattison Industries Ltd. was licenced to operate a new FM station in Red Deer. However a frequency other than the proposed 99.9 MHz would have to be applied for. Pattison proposed to feature Classic Rock music, designed to attract an audience between the ages of 25 and 54.
On November 4, Jim Pattison Industries Ltd. was authorized to use 106.7 MHz with an effective radiated power of 100,000 watts for its new Red Deer station. Antenna height would be 224.1 metres, using the co-owned CHUB-FM site
CFDV-FM (The Drive – Central Alberta’s Classic Rock) signed on the air. Studios and offices were co-located with sister station CHUB-FM at 2840 Bremner Avenue (Second Floor) in Red Deer.
Island Radio's news director Marlow Weldon left February 3 to become sports director at the Jim Pattison Red Deer group.
On November 30, the CRTC renewed CFDV's licence to August 31, 2017.
The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group Red Deer thanked Jim Hall, Program Director of BIG 105 and 106.7 The Drive, for his many years of service following his retirement. Peter Michaels was named the new Program Director of 106.7 The Drive and Jamie Rankin was appointed the Program Director of BIG 105.
What was supposed to be a two-year gig in 1989 at then CKRD-AM (now CHUB-FM) for morning show host Jim Hall, turned into a 23-year career. Hall became Program Director in 1996 and then added PD duties at sister station 106.7 The Drive when it launched in 2004. He took voluntary early retirement, moving home to Kelowna to be closer to family. Succeeding him involved two promotions: Peter Michaels was now PD at 106.7 The Drive while Jamie Rankin was PD at BIG 105.
Grant Belous was promoted from evenings/swing to co-host of the Morning Drive! Ryan Simmons moved from doing part time V/T's and creative writing to become the new evening/weekend host.
Evening/weekend swing jock Grant Belous moved to co-hosting 106.7 The Drive's morning show. He succeeded long-timer Chris Savage who left broadcasting.
