On July 2, Radio Nord Communications inc. (75%) and La Société Spectra-Scène inc. (25%) were issued a licence for a new FM station at Montreal, operating on 91.9 MHz with an effective radiated power of 900 watts. The station would provide a “Cool Jazz” specialty format (mainly jazz and blues) targeting an adult audience in the 35-64 age group.
On July 23, CKLX-FM was granted an increase in power from 900 to 1,900 watts and a decrease in antenna height from 199.1 to 193 metres.
CKLX began testing its signal from the Mont Royal transmitter site in September. The station with its "Couleurs Jazz" format was scheduled to sign on the air later in the Fall.
On August 30, as part of a corporate reorganization, RNC MEDIA Inc. (formerly known as Radio Nord Communications inc.) received permission to acquire, from its wholly-owned subsidiary Radio Couleur Jazz inc., the assets of CKLX-FM.
91.9 CKLX changed its name from Couleur Jazz to Planete Jazz.
On August 17, the CRTC renewed the licence for CKLX-FM Montréal until 31 August 2013. This short-term renewal would enable the Commission to review, at an earlier date, the licensee's compliance with the Radio Regulations, 1986 and with its conditions of licence. The Commission approved in part the request by RNC Media Inc. to allocate its outstanding Canadian talent development contributions over the new licence term.
It was announced that CKLX-FM would change format from Jazz to 50% Talk & 50% unspecified music as of the late summer or early fall. The station was awaiting CRTC approval to move to 100% talk programming.
CKLX changed format from Jazz (Planete Jazz) to Talk (days) / Jazz (nights) (CHOI Radio X) (an application is pending to go 100% Talk).
On March 14, the CRTC denied the application by RNC MEDIA Inc. to convert the specialty format of the French-language commercial radio station CKLX-FM, focused on jazz and blues, to a specialty spoken word format. The Commission cited conditions of the Montréal radio market and the licensee's non-compliance for the denial.
On July 22, the CRTC renewed the licence of CKLX-FM to August 31, 2014.
The CRTC approved CKLX-FM's application to switch to a spoken word format from specialty music.
CKLX rebranded from RADIO X to RADIO 9, changing from a mix of Talk and Jazz to daytime Talk, evening Sports and overnight Rock.
CKLX abandoned its short-lived Talk format August 31 and moved to All Sports. The station was branded 91.9 Sport and the call letters changed to CFSI.
