On November 28, the CRTC approved an application by Melvin Augustine (on behalf of a not-for-profit organization) for a broadcasting licence for an English- and Native-language FM radio programming undertaking at Big Cove, on the frequency 101.5 MHz with an effective radiated power of 3 watts. The station would broadcast 84 hours per week of local programming, of which 65% would be in Micmac and 35% in English. The programming would consist of educational and public affairs programs as well as contemporary and native music. No more than an average of 4 minutes of advertising per hour per day, with a maximum of 6 minutes in any given hour, would be broadcast. The station would serve the Elsipogtog First Nation.
CFTI-AM signed on the air.
On February 25, the CRTC approved the application for CFTI-FM to increase ERP from 3 to 50 watts and change the frequency from 101.5 to 101.1 MHz.
