CICU-FM, Aboriginal, Eskasoni
On December 23, Greg Johnson received a licence for an English and Native language FM (Type B FM Native) station at the Eskasoni Indian Reserve. The station would broadcast on a frequency of 94.1 MHz with an effective radiated power of one watt. It would broadcast 35 hours of locally-produced programming in the Micmac (65%) and English (35%) languages. Eskasoni is located in the Cape Breton area.
CICU-FM signed on the air. Studios and offices were located in the basement of Greg Johnson's home at at 130 Anslum Road, Eskasoni.
On August 29 the CRTC renewed CICU-FM's licence until August 31, 2012.
On August 17, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence of CICU-FM to August 31, 2013.
On May 3, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence of CICU-FM Eskasoni Indian Reserve to August 31, 2013. The Commission noted that it had not received the licence renewal application for this station. If an application was not received by November 29, 2013, it may no longer renew the licence.
