On March 15, Humber College had its application for an institutional FM station at Etobicoke denied.
Humber College Communications Corporation's application for a non-commercial campus-instructional FM station was denied. Humber had proposed to operate on 91.9 MHz with an effective radiated power of 60 watts.
On September 13, Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning (on behalf of a not-for-profit corporation to be incorporated) was awarded a licence for a new developmental campus FM station at Toronto. The new station would broadcast on 96.9 MHz with an effective radiated power of 5 watts.
The school of Media Studies and Information Technology at Humber College launched Canada’s only 100% (rather than the usual 35%) Canadian content radio station on November 29. CKHC 96.9 "Radio Humber" was the first Toronto College station to receive an FM license in 20 years. CKHC's signal could be heard from Mayfield Rd., east to Yonge, west to the 410 and south to Dundas St. The “HC” in the call sign: Humber College.
For the record, Jerry Chomyn wrote and presented all applications to the CRTC as CKHC Radio Humber's station manager, and later as Humber Director of Broadcast Media.
