CKJS-AM, Multilingual, Winnipeg
Dufferin Communications Inc. (Evanov)
On July 5, C. G. Stanczykowski (CKJS Ltd.) received a licence for a new multilingual AM station at Winnipeg, operating on 810 kHz with a power of 10,000 watts. Mr. Stanczykowski founded multinlingual station CFMB in Montreal in 1962 and still owned that station.
CKJS 810 signed on the air on March 25.
C. G. Stanczykowski, founder and owner of CKJS, died in a tragic traffic accident on July 12, 1981.
On February 15, the CRTC renewed CKJS's licence to September 30, 1989.
CKJS increased ethnic programming from 38% to 60%.
One March 23, the sale of CKJS Ltd. by C.G. Stanczykowski & Associates Limited to Newcap Inc. was approved. Operation continued under the corporate name of CKJS Ltd.
On August 13, Newcap Radio Manitoba Inc. received approval to acquire the assets of CKJS from CKJS Ltd. This was due to a corporate reorganization that resulted in the wind up of CKJS Ltd. into Newcap Radio Manitoba Inc.
Michelle Pereira, the Retail Sales Manager at HANK-FM/CKJS from 2007 to 2009 was now with CHUM Winnipeg as Agency Liaison.
On August 31, the CRTC administratively renewed the licence for CKJS until March 31, 2012.
On October 24, the CRTC approved the application by Dufferin Communications Inc. for authority to acquire from Newcap Inc. the assets of CHNK-FM and CKJS Winnipeg. The Commission also approved Dufferin's request to amend CHNK-FM's condition of licence relating to the broadcast of musical selections from content category 2 (Popular Music) and renewed the licence for CKJS to August 31, 2018. Dufferin was a wholly owned subsidiary of Evanov Communications Inc., a corporation controlled by Mr. William Evanov.
Mike Fabian became General Manager at Evanov Winnipeg (Energy 106, The Breeze 107 and CKJS). He also continued as General Sales Manager.
On November 30, the CRTC approved the application by Dufferin Communications to convert CKJS to the FM band, operating on 92.7 MHz (channel 224B) with an average ERP of 19,700 watts (max. 35,000 watts with EHAAT of 154 metres).
